The Season of Hope

The Christmas season is the season of hope. For those of us who know, and hope in, Jesus, it really is a season of hope. It reminds us of our salvation and our coming final salvation. It reminds us that, whether life has gone pleasantly for us or it hasn’t, we have hope, and that hope rests securely in someone who will not and cannot fail. God demonstrated that to us in sending his only son to dwell among us as one of us (Romans 8.32).

Part of celebrating the hope we have received is extending that hope to others. Christmas is not just about what we have received. Christmas, the coming of Jesus Christ into the world, is about God sending his son to rescue many, many people from their sins (Matthew 1.21). We are the people of that message. We are the people who have hope.

What better expression of worship and celebration of Christmas than to invest our lives into those around us for the purpose of sharing the story of hope in Jesus with them?

The People Who Have Hope

As those who have hope, it is our responsibility (and honestly, our joy) to put it on display for others and invite them in. What better expression of worship and celebration of Christmas than to invest our lives into those around us for the purpose of sharing the story of hope in Jesus with them? So as we celebrate and look toward Christmas, let’s do it with an outward leaning, looking for ways to share the heart of Christmas in word and in deed.

We have put together a few ideas to help you with that this Advent season. Our “Suggestions for Living on Mission” are found on the last page of our Advent Guide. We would highly encourage you to read through the list now, pick a few things from the list, and make a plan to put them into action in the coming weeks.

Let’s don’t just hope we have a few conversations, or look back in a month and wish we had. Let’s plan now to make this a missional Advent season.

We are praying for you and with you. We can’t wait to hear your stories.
