To the Nations

In week 7 of our series Disciple-Making Mission we talked about the end destination of our disciple-making mission. Every one of us has been sent to the people around us, and we should always have an eye to the nations.

We looked at Jesus’ statement to his disciples in Acts 1.6-8. In this encounter he reminds them that the Holy Spirit is coming, and that when he comes he will empower them to tell others about Jesus because life is always all about Jesus. He is the highest and greatest, and all things were created by him and for him (Col. 1.15-22). So the Spirit empowers us to tell others about him. A few of the things we saw:

Jesus sends his disciples to make disciples wherever they are, with an eye to the nations.
Ways we can be involved in that are pray, give, & go.

• We pray regularly for the nations and the workers out of our church.
• You can join an advocacy team for one of our workers.
• God gives to us so we can give generously to fund Kingdom work and gospel witness.
• 10% of our Remedy giving goes directly to church planting and international missions right off the top.
• God is leading some of us to go to the nations, and we need to respond to that in faith.
• Others of us need to leverage our finances and days off work to go to the nations in a short term capacity.
• We will need to send our best, and healthy churches measure success not by how big we are, but how we are making disciples and sending people out.

Questions for discussion:

1. As you read through Acts 1.6-8 and listen to the sermon, what do you sense the Lord saying to you? What about to our church?
2. What things from the passage encourage you? What things challenge you?
3. How does your life reflect that Jesus is the highest and greatest, and that everything is all about him?
4. Do you pray consistently for the lost? Do you give generously to fund kingdom work? If not, what steps do you need to take to live out these values?
5. How does the Lord want you to be involved in the church’s mission to the nations?
6. What do you think God wants you to do in response to all of this?
